SPEEDING CARS.

♦ • RISKS TO COUNTY WORKMEN. Since the Main Highways scheme has been in operation and the workmen of the Horowhenua County Council have been engaged in re-con-structing the roads in this district, there have been recurring incidents where motorists, (with an absolute disregard for anyone but themselves, have continued speeding on those stretches of road being bitumenised. At Saturday’s meeting of the Hornwhenua County Council, Cr. Jensen brought np the subject, and, in so doing, remarked that something would have to be done. A short while ago he had observed a small car travelling at a furious rate along a, road under construction, and it zig-zag-ged its way over the section at great risk to "workmen. The County Engineer, Mr W. N. Anderson, said that, a few days ago, the Main Highways Engineer was in Levin, and he informed the speaker that, if the County would forward names and car-numbers to the Highways Board, the latter would take the necessary steps to bring delinquents to bpok. When the numbers had been sent in the matter would be brought before the mentor 'representative of the Board.
