SHORTAGE OF WATER.
MR EDWARDS TO INSPECT WATERWORKS. On Monday last complaint was received by the Mayor from several of the residents that the town water supply was becoming short. He, immediately. despatched the roadman to the reservoir to ascertain the trouble. On examination the roadman found there was only one foot of water in the/ reservoir and no water running in. He visited the intake and found the wa-' ter, owing to a recent flood in the stream, had been diverted from the galleries. By clearing, the shingle and debris he. was able to get the water running again satisfactorily and it was not long before the reservoir filled up. This trouble having arisen before, Gr. Spencer was authorised to interview Mr R. Edwards, who was engineer for the installation of the water scheme, to ascertain how this difficulty could be overcome, and as a Tesult a special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, which Mr Edwards attended. He pointed out that the galleries required a certain amount of attention by a person who thoroughly understood the workings. He offered to take charge for 12 months and visit the intake every two months or at any time he' should be sent for at a remuneration p -of £lls for the above period. Also' that on each visit he would take the Borough foreman out with him and instruct him what to do so that he would <be conversant with the work. The Council after thoroughly .discussing the matter, agreed to accept Mr Edwards' offer.
