CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MONTHJLY MEETING, The above meeting was held in the Library last evening. The president (Mr A. E, Hyde) presided over a fair attendance of members. CORRESPONDENCE.. From. Chief [Postmaster, Palmerston North, replying to the? Chamber's request that the Department instal a public call office and a stamp vending machine a.t the local post office. The letter stated that the installation of the latter could not be authorised at present. The, providing/ of a public call office is being dealt with by the Chief Telegraph Engineer's branch and the Department's decision will be forwarded in due course—^Received. The Wellington Automobile Association New Zealand Warehouseman's Association, and the Eketahuna and Masterton Chambers of Commerce wrote expressing their sympathy with the Chamber in their endeavour to secure the completion of the road at Mangahao linking up Shannon and Eketalwna, stating they will do all they can to support the Chamber's eh font The Masterton Chamber suggested that the local Chamber should submit a report -from the Public Works Department as to the probable cost of completing the road.—The pre. sident pointed out that they had not "•ot sufficient data to work, on. At present they did not know, if the construction of the road was feasible, and if so, What the cost would be. He sadd it was necessary to have these facts, so that they could be placed before those public bodies which were interested, who would then be anla to assist them with their representation. As one who knew the country at Man gahao, it was decided *to write to Mr Jickell, of Palmerston North, for information in regard -to-the feasibility of the road; also that members obtain any information they could. • Mr Burns stated that he had been approached by a 'resident of Buckley with a request that the Chamber use its influence to have a rural mail delivery incorporated with the school coach which it has, been definitely decided to run to and from Buckley.— The president and secretary were ap-, pointed to co-operate with the residents of Buckley in .the. matter. ■• Mr Hyde reportedjf'e had represented the Chamber ancf Mr Thwaites, the ■Borough Council, on the deputation •which recently waited on the Main Highways Board, re the Koputaroa— Buckley road. A survey, and estimate of the cost of the road is to be made toy the Public Works Department and the Chairman had promised that this work will be pushed on. _ Owing.to business reasons, Mr H. A. .Seifert tendered, his resignation as a member, whidh was accepted with regret.
