MAORILAND PICTURES.

THURSDAY NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. The big picture of the Riose-Hahn match will be screened to-night and as it covers the race from start to finish should attract a big audience. The star picture is “North of Nome.” For 1 those patrons who want thrill and action, mingled with their romance, “North of Nome” is reconiended. This action, packed romance of the frozen North, was made entirely in Alaska and in addition to the thrills and acttion of he picture, is replete with scenic splendour of that country. FRIDAY. A special programme has beeii approved of for Good Friday night. “MEN AND WOMEN’’ ON SATURDAY William De Mille .has brought a dramatic throbbing slice of life to the screen in his Paramount picture “Men and, Women,” which comes to the Maoriland Theatre next Saturday. Richard Dix, Claire Adams and Robert Edeson are the players, and it is a story of modern marriage and of al young man \ who 1 tried to keep pace with his luxury-loving wife. “SIEGE” ON MONDAY. ■The real trials and tribulations of lovers come not before marriage, but after. That is the theory set forth in “Siege,” the- Universal-Jewel attraction starring 1 Virginia, Valli and Eugene O’Brien, . which comes to the local Theatre on Monday-night. In the ordinary movie, the handsome hero and winsome heroine are presented as going through all manner of tragedies, pitfalls, danger, .misunderstandings and quarrels for six feels, with the inevitable clincli in the final fadeont, and a promise of eternal happiness thereafter. Samuel Hopkins Adams, the author, and Svend Gade, the director, have reversed this state of affairs iti “Siege.” Here, the girl, as played by Virginia Valli, and the man, portrayed by Eugene O’Brien, marry, in,the first reel and experience their troubles in the, ensuing scenes. Though they overcome their largest difficulty at thei end of the picture, there is no particular indication that other troubles will not arise.
