MOTOR SMASH AT TOKOMARU.
TWO GARS BADLY DAMAGED. A motor collision with serious results to- iboth cars occurred at Tokomam Thursday, Mrs J. Varnham, of Levin, and her son| Mr Jack Varnham, were proceeding yesterday morning to Palmerston North, and while entering' a cutting near the store at Tokomaru perceived a big Vauxhall car coining towai'ds them. Mr Varnham slowed down his car, and drew alongside x a culvert, hui had barely done so when the approaching car crashed into the rear of the almost stationary car, throwing it into the ditch. The Vaiuxhall car subsequently skidded and crashed into a telephone post. Mrs Varnham and her son were very much shaken, as were the occupants of the other cai, who had left Ashhurst that morning to make the journey to Wellington, en route tot the Exhibition. The rear axle of the Levin car was badly twisted,' and the wheels were torn off, it toeing impossible for the travellers to continue their journey. Mr Frank Knight made the trip out to Tokomaru and returned with Mrs Varnham and her son. The Ashhurst car was badly wrecked, both the cars having 'to be [ removed by loiries.
