SPORTING NOTES.

No jockey in recent years has gained the phenomenal success that has attended the former New Zealand rider, George Young, who added the Australian Cup to his already long list of successes. Young scored his first victory in Australia on Cupidon in the A.J.C. Derby of 1921. He has won practically all the important races in Victoria and New South Wales, and the same may be said of his successes in New Zealand. /He has not permanently resided in Australia for very long, but inside a period of two years he has won such important events as the V.R.C. Derby, Caulfield Cup, Malb&um'e Stakes, W. S. Cox Plate, Railway' Highweight Handicap, Australian Gup, A.J.C. Craven Plate (twice), Spring Stakes, Rosehill Hill Stakes, Breeders' Plato, and Gimcrack Stakes. Added to these numerous minor events have fallen to his credit .since he settled in Sydney twelve months ago. He has ridden The Night Patrol in many of his victories, and also rode Pilliewinkie in New Zealand.

The hurdlers Comedy Prince, Askari, and Many Colours arc well forward in condition, and some stake money, with ordinary luck, will come their way shortly. The Night Patrol, who was recently purchased by Mr. G. Buckley, of Melbourne, for 10,000 guineas, was imported to Australia from England by the State Governor of Victoria, the Earl of Stradbroke, under whose colours he won a number Of important races on Victorian racecourses, and stake winnings in Australia amount to over £IO,OOO. The Night Patrol is a descendant of Steadfast (son of William the Third, and grandson of the celebrated St. Simon).
