SUHAN WIN'S SINGtLES- CHAMPIONSHIP. The Manawatu Bowling Centre couir menced the championship tourney at the Terrace iEtnd green on Wednesday, | when the singles were contested by players from the twelve different clubs •within the centre. The games were marred by an unfortunate heavy wind which made good howling almost an impossibility. Nevertheless, .good contests were witnessed. \' The competitors were G. JBckersley (Ma%watu), F. C. Bryan (Northern), Needham (P.N.), J. Tantrum (T&karo), M. J. Suhan (Levin), Dr. H. Patterson (Pahiatua), Hornblow. (Eketahunia), B. Spencer (Shannon), W. T. GiH>ert (Danneivirke), Burae (Fedlding), Dr. Mules (Woodville); Skinner (Terrace End)., First Round.-Siuhan 20 v. Spencer 15, Bryan 22 v. Skinner 13, Mules 19 v.' Tantrum 14, Horntblow fcy default from Burne, Gilbert 16 v. Eckeisley 14, Needham 28 v. Paterson 19. Second Round.—iSuhan 27 v. Bryan 14, Mules 23 v. Horntolow 15, NaedJham 23 v. Gilbert 11. Semi-final.—i Needham 17 v. Mules 15, Suhan a bye. Mules started off well, and did all -the scoring up to the 6th head when he had ragisttered 6 points. At the conclusion of the. lith head the scores stood Ift—s against the winner. Needham, hawever, lay 4 up on the 13th* head and brought the scores to 10 all. The' 15th head saw him leading by 4 points and from thence onward he managed to keep ahead of his opponent, winning by two potoits. FINiALI Suhan met Needham in the final and commenced to score from the start. Although Needham evened up 3 'all on the sth head it was only momentarily, Suhan taking the next four heads. Needhairi's luck seemed Like changing when he won iboith the lOth and nth heads, each 2 up. On both occasions he managed to, touch the jack with twio successive Ibowls. The 12th and 13th heads went to Suhan with single-point wins. Nieedham took the ,14th one up, just failing in a drive «to clear his opponent away for 3 up. The conclusion, of head 18 found the players even again —l2 all, Needham having added 4 in the three previous heads. An additional point on the 19th head put the Palmerston player in the lead, but Suhan retaliated immediately afterwards with 3 ait (the 20th head and 1 for the final 'bout. Suhan thus won 16—13—and holds the championship for the second year in succession.
