NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MER- ■ CA'NTILE AGENCY CO. i The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report:— At our fourth sale of the present selling- season we submitted a catalogue comprising* some 2250 bales and succeeded in disposing of over 95 per cent, at auction. Buyers were in full attendance and competition was keen and animated throughout the sale, at prices from par to id dearer than last sale's rates, with the exception of superior style wools, which were oi an easier basis, America not operating- to the same extent. A numbei of suitable wools were offered for this section, but it was evident that one or two buyers operating- on their behalf were in receipt of reducer! limits. Nevertheless the sale was very satisfactory and values are a shade dearer than the level of prices established at recent, sales. The selection of wool submitted Was not so good as . previous catalogues. Many clips were of medium condition and showed tenderness of staple. Seed was also ir> evidence. : Recent cables from overseas manufacturing centres indicate a much better tone, with increasing confidence in the position of present-day values. Inall sections of the textile industry there is a feeling that trade generally will show a steady improvement during the present year. Stability in prices is one of the most vital factors influencing trade, and if wool can be stabilised at to-day's level there is every reason to expect a considerable expansion in the demand, which will result in wider competition. In our opinion superior style wools ruled from par to Id easier,, average and inferior par to Id dearer, pieces and oddments par to Id dearer. Lambs of good quality and style were well up to late rates, but short ar.d inferior slightly easier. Very keen competition was experienced for binned wools and it was evident by prices obtained that growers of smaller clips ar e handsomely rewarded by disposing of their wool in this manner. Larger lots are made, the wool being more | evenly graded, and consequently they ( meet with the maximum amount of } competition and sell at. full market j rates. - J
