BOWLING BY WIGHT.
The electric lighting of the Shannon green has made it possible to hold tournaments of an evening and during the past week a rink tournament, was in progress, being brought to a close on Friday qventog. Tnirty-two Club, players took part out of a membership of 42 and some interesting games resulted. The winning rink was Shannon, Newton, Whibley and E. Spencer (skip), who played four games without a loss, the runners-up being Blackwood, Blight, Murray;and Gagliardi (skip.)'with 3 wins and one . loss. The keenness of members has encouraged the committee to commence a pairs, tournament which will start this evening and be continued to-morrow night. The drawing is as follows: First Round.— H. Butt v. Gunning, B. Spencer v. E. Spencer, Bovis, v. Jones, Murray v. Morgan, Bartholomew v. Gagliardi, E. Butt v. Whibicy, Newton a bye. v Second Round.—Gunning v. Bovis. Wihibley y. Jones, Newton y. E. Butt, Morgan v. B. Spencer, Gagliardi v. E, Spencer, Murray v. H. Butt. Bartholomew a bye. Third Round.—Whiibley ,v. Gunning, H. Butt v. Newiton, Bovis v. Gagliardi, Jones v. E. Butt, Murray v. B. Spencer, E. Spencer v. Bartholomew, Morgan a toye. SHANNON RINK WINS MANSON AND BARiR! CUP. A rink fromi Shannon played Bannevirke at the latter place on Saturday for the iManson and Barr Cup and were successful in winning the trophy after a hard-fought game by one point, the final score, toeing 19 to 18. Shannon did not commence to score until the' sixth head, when one was scored, the holders (then being eight.. At the ninth head the score stood Dannevirke 11, Shannon 2. The rinks then adjourned for afternoon tea. On resuming Shannon put on a three and at the 19th head the score against, them-stood at 18 to 13, with only two heads to go and six points needed to win, the task looking '.almost impossible, but playing well, they scored three on each head, thus winning, the coveted trophy. The rinks were as follows:
Shannon. Morgan, Newton, Murray, Gagliardi fskip.) Dannevirke.—Chick, Clarke, Rankin, Bissell (skip.) Manawatu will meet Shannon at Shannon on Saturday next for the Cup. DIXON CUP. A match for the Dixon Cup was played at Feilding on Saturday wdien a Shannon rink consisting of Hi. Butt, B. Spencer, Wnilbley and E. Spencer (skip.) tried conclusions with the holders, but were easily defeated by 34 to 17. The Feilding rink Avas Ross, Clapham, Quayle, Herdhian.
