MAKING MAIN HIGHWAYS.

Reporting to the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday the County Engineer said: Good progress .has. been made with the Main Highways Survey. The Levin-Potts Road ■'f ection survey has been completed and plans, .specifications, ec, are'well in hand and should be (ready for approval within the next week or ten days. As soon as these plans are approved a "start wall be made with the formiatjon work on the above section., The survey has now been completed of 21 miles of highways. Durin.? trie period a start was -m-acse with die formation work on the Wai-kanae-Otaki section ,in 1 lair progress has been made, 26 men and 6 drays being engaged on this work. Tine foundation work on the LavinManakau Bridge seation is now .almost completed and ,a gang is engaged in the trimming of formation work on this section. . No. 4 Crushing Plant is now in full swing and two 10-hour shifts are being worked. Everything in connection with this plant is very satisfactory and a very good sample of metal and chips is being produced. Approx imately 1800 ciulbic yards of metal and chips have (been put out since commencing operations. The bitumen gang started! work during the period and to date has topdressed U miles of old tar-sealed work and "has put down 84 chains of 4-inch penetration course. Considering the very broken and unfavourable weather, very good progress has been made with this work. The (bitumen plant is giving every satisfaction.
