DAIRY COMPANIES' ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF EXEGVTIVE. The executive committee of the Manawatu and West Coast ,Dairy Companies', Association met yesterday Mr. S. Broadbelt (Levin) occupying the chair. » After discussing the question ot electric power charges to dairy factories it was agreed to recommend consumers to purchase power under the small users rate as that was deemed cheaper than the maximum demand system. A letter was received from the New Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union Ltd., asking if the Association would take up the matter of payment for butterfat on the grade system. There was no doubt that it was in the interest of all concerned that this method of eliminating the second grade cream should come into force as soon as possible, and with that end in view it was suggested that a meeting of the various company directors should be called at an early date to discuss the question. The farm instructors, supplied by the Government, strongly advocated the move and would lend every assistance to carry It out^ The chairman considered the Association should do all it could to maintain a high grade cream and other other members concurred. It was decided to ask the Dairy Union if the matter could be held over till the annual meeting, when a remit on the question could be discussed. It was pointed out that, as it was too late to do anything this season, the calling of a special meeting would b 0 of no advantage. . Following a discussion on the question of grading, it Was decided to recommend to the Control Board that the standard for superfine butter should not b e less than 93, with an equivalent grade for cheese. In the matter of control of dairy produce it was decided, to invite members of the board to address a.meeting of company lepresentatives here some time about March 18 on the general policy of the board and, if time should permit, on the question of the method of election.
