THE OTAKI HOSPITAL.
WILL NOT BE CLOSED. (Otaki Mail.) It has been said in certain quarters that our Mayor (Mr. Brandon) has been doing but little in connection with the local hospital, which it is stated is likely to be closed, but it may be mentioned that Mr. Brandon has been m close touch with the authorities for the past six months and is now in possession of information which he has nohesitation in saying will assure to the inhabitants of Otaki and the district in general that the hospital w r ill not be closed but will be brought up-to-date to cope with the requirements of the district. Mr. Field, M.P., who has taken a keen interest in the matter, advises Mr. Brandon that he has had a lengthy interview -with the Hon. MrYoung, the new Minister of Health, with very satisfactory results. Mr. Brandon has now decided to call a .meeting of local doctors, if necessary, to moot Mr. Field and the district representatives on the Hospital Board when matters will be fully discussed. Mr. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, who is strongly opposed to the usefulness of the institution being curtailed, has signified his intention of being present. It is unlikely that the hospital will be closed, but, nevertheless, further developments are eagerly awaited.
