"I was surprised to find your country so far advanced." said Mr. R. Husband, of Dunfermline, Scotland, when speaking at, a concert tendered the visiting bowlers. "You have borrowed large sums of money to construct your roads and effect other major works. You are certainly not afraid to borrow money. In Scotland we would hold many m'eetings before deciding to "Borrow some of the sums you in New Zealand do so readily."
A young lady created quite a sensation in Victoria. Avenue, Wanganui, the other afternoon, bv walking placidly along wearing a short skirt and no stockings. Attention was drawn ~o the incident by a small boy lemarking 1 o another: "Hey, look at the tart without any stockings." With the fleshvcoloured artificial silk stockings the young ladies wear; now, it is very difficult to discriminate between a lady with or without. stockings. At any rate, there was a good excuse for the young lady who went on parade that afternoon on account of the heat.
