HOLD-UP ON FOXTON ROAD.

BIG LORRIES BLOCK FAIRWAY. A curious mishap occurred on the Levin-Foxton road on Tuesday, with the result, that the road was completely blocked for some hours. About 'a p.m. a large lorry was approaching the WiMkino hridge from the Levin side when the engine stalled leaving the big vehicle with its heavy load right in the middle -of the road.

A little later another bag lorry came along, and finding the fairway blocked endeavoured to go round the side. But as soon as one wheel got off the solid road, it sank in the soft earth and completed, the hold-up, effectually preventing any passage along the road for some.hours. At last, after consider able manoeuvring, lorry number one was coaxed by inches in low gear on to the side of the roiad, but this only gave a narrow thoroughfare, and'two other big commercial vehicles which came along during the night were afraid to risk attempting to pass until daylight. , . When morning came four lorries 'were patiently waiting the arrival of assistance. Mr R. MoMurray's powerful "bus" was called upon at b a.m. yesterday, and after two hours work succeeded, in pulling lorry No. 2 out of the mud and thus clearing the road sufficiently to allow the others to pass.-Times Foxton correspondent.
