FALL IN PRICE OF STOCK.
HOW PRODUCERS ARE HIT. The great difference between- prices realised tor mutton and. lamh tiMs export season compared with last will be seem in the table here
Wellington prices are taken as a basis. Canterbpry kumib quotations are higher. For last season these ranged from lljfcd to 13d, the season opening at lflid and closing at _ll s d. Canterbury export season has not yet opened. The current prices given, by the Meat Export Control Board are as follows: . l . Wethers- Ewes Lambs
These prices are far 561 b and under for wethers and ewos and 361 b and •under for prime woolly lambs;, secunu quality is lower by ltl to id poi pound in the case of mutton and id to id in the ease of lambs _ .. Several factors have to be taken into account in considering the reduction in prices realised tor stock and among them are the fall in the price ot wool, the greatly augmen - ed South American exports of chilled beef to England, also the dislocation of trade caused by the overseas shipping strike in Australia and Ne* Zealand. Heavy shipments of Australian lamb, that should have been despatched much earlier in the season, are now coming on to the niaiket, causing it to sag. . The lessened return to the New : Zealand producer this season mU I represent roughly 7s on lambs and 10s on sheep.
