DAIRYING ADVANCE.

OUTPUT UP 6.8 PER CENT.IX 1924-25. , WELLINGTON, December 31. - The dairying year proper ends on July 31. For this -last annual period our great dairy industry scored a further advance in production, states Dr. G. Jl Reakes, Director-General oi Agriculture,' in his review of the primary industries. The official gradings for export were 70.216 tons of butter (an increase of 13.6 per cent.), and 69,938 tons of cheese (a decrease of 5.2 per cent.}. In terms of butterfat the amounts for butter and cheese oomlbimed represent a net increase oi 6.8 per cent, compared with t,he preceding year. This established a new high level of butter-fat production for tlie Dominion. Moreover, the local market absorbs an increasing proportion of the butter and oheese output each year. Including all milk products,, the dairy industry provided about one-third in value of the country's exports for 1924-23. Cheese gave the higher return f 0 the producers last season, but the butter branch also did very satisfactorily. The new season's prospects are somewhat uncertain, owing largely to disorganisation of shipping. However, a large proportion of the output to the end of December has been sold forward at good .prices.
