THE SLEEPY SLOTH.
Unlike most animals, the sloth is indolent to such a degree that, living as it does in the midst of the dense-crowd-ed trotocal jungle of South America, one wonders how it manages to hold its own and obtain sufficient food. x - Quite unconcerned by all going on around it, the sloth sleeps on; even the most violent shaking will not waken it Nothing so trivial as the waving ot a'scarlet rag or thought of a chmbing serpent not more than a few feet oit ean produce even the faintest change ° f The Pr Sai is totally indifferent to < any noise or strong smell in its vicinity, either of which things among animals in general causes a frenzy or excitement. So impassive is it that eve a a gun fired off at its ear will not produce any movement or indication that J it lives.
