Comprising close on a thousand pages it is. a veritable mine oi information about the Dicanimion. The facts and figures it presents are apparently inexhaustible and yet these are arranged in a' manner that is attractive to the general reader and 1 easily accessible to the businessmaiii 'or politician. At ?s 6d per copy the Year Book represomts the best 'value offered in the bibliography of Now Zealand to-day, and is a credit to the Government office issuing it and the j Government Statistician, Mr Malcolm I Fraser. A considerable amount of new matter, and a most valuable j volu-nie for those who desire to he I informed of the eeoinonniics of their own country* whilst it should prove an acceptable gilt for friends abroad. Three entirely new sections have been added—on trade unions, employment and hioemiploymenf, and industrial accidents, respectively, j There is a special article on the subject of cancer in New Zealand, writI ten by Mr .1. W. Butcher, whose previous article on Hie same subject appeared in the 191 7 Year Book. Other new fcultures, arc statistics 'as to causes of Maori deaths, factories, local bodies, loan authorities and •borrowings, export, prices, State and local body employees, registration of motor vehicles, life tables, and land taxation. The sections on native lands, forestry and prices have been rewritten up to date, and the statistical summary has been remodelled and extended, while other sections have been rewritten in part, or contain new matter. Full information is given as to geography, history and constitution, Parliament, population, vital statis--1 tics, public health and hospitals, education, justice, defence, trade, ship*ping, railways, post and telegraphs, land tenure and settlement, agricultural and pastoral production, forestry, fisheries, mining, manufactures, water power, public- finance, hanking. insurance, friendly and building societies, mortgages, bankrupt cy, wealtli and incomes, wages and hours of labour, trade unions, industrial disputes, and other matters of interest to the life of the nation.
