PEOPLE’S PICNIC.
NE\V YEAOEtfS DAY. Matters in connection with the People’s Picnic are now well in hand and tiie Committee desire to- thank all those who have so generously ghen cash and trophies for the many events. The children are requested to assemble at the Post Office at 11 a.m., and, headed by, the Foxton Silver Band, will proceed to the reserve. Oar owners are invited to join in the procession and if possible to have their cars decorated. A handsome prize is offered for the. best decorated car. Fancy costumes of the car occupants will also be considered and will count in their favour. ■ The cycle road race is causing a o-reat deal of interest and there are already many entries. Mr Young will be glad to. take the name of any further competitors. The side shows' should prove a. feature of the occasion and will no doubt.
cause much lun. The Maori Band is being asked to attend and' delight tbe public with some of their plaintive music which is always so much appreciated. In the event of the day being wet, the picnic will be held in the Druids i-lall, but all will hope fob a, fine day and 'a good attendance of the public. It is expected that this will be Shannon’s Gala'Day and it only now rests witli the public to make it so. The committees have worked hard and often, to give all a good day and it is felt that the people of Shannon and district will show their appreciation hv coming along in full force. The “News” takes this opportunity of wishing the picnic success and hopes that in future it will toe an annual event.
