CHRISTMAS TREE.

A JOY. NIGHT. The Christmas Tree provided by the Druids of Shannon for the children of members and those of members of kindred friendly societies, held in the Druids’ Hall on Tuesday evening, was an unqualified success. A huge Christinas tree had been erected, which was laden with toys, lucky bags, and such articles dear to the heart of every child, suitable presents being available fioir all ages from babes in arms to 14 years.. Great excitement' prevailed when a telegram was read out that Santa Glaus w ould arrive at 7.30,p.m., and punctually at that time he made his entrance with all due ceremony and pomp. His reception was somewhat mixed between awe and joy, according to age. However, his jovial manner soon put everyone in a happy mood and the little ones as they received a presen, and a happy word from Santa Glaus, returned to their seats with'-joy written on their faces. After the presents had been distributed Santa Claus bid them farewell until next year, wishing them all a Merry Christmas, and birleaving the room was loudly cheered. ' , During the evening the children had a royal time, being allowed, with the aid of squeakers, to make as much noise es they liked, vyhich they did. There were bags of lollies, in plenty, for everyone, and nut scrambles which caused delight, among the elder children, while at intervals there were a number of polkas and waltzes which the children entered into with rigour. Shortly before nine o’clock reiresnments were served at five conclusion of which all present joined hands, sang “Auld Lang Syne,” bringing to a clos ; e one of the happiest little gatherings held in Shannon and one that will long be remembered by the kiddies, who, we feel sure, have already commenced to look forward to the next visit of Santa Glaus.
