HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
THE DECEMBER MEETING. There were present at die meeting of the Horowhenua County Council on {Saturday, 'the chairman, Cr. Monk, and Crs. Jensen, Caltley, Broadbelt, Harkness, Bryant, Ryder, Whyte and Barher. HOKLO CREEK. The Hokio Drainage Board ■ wrote stating that'in view of the desirability of having cleaning operations in the Hokio stream undertaken at this time of the year, they asked if the County Council would be agreeable to their doing tire necessary work. The sanction of the Hlokio Lake Domain Board was also being sought in the matter .--Cr. Ryder asked why three bodies should be necessary to control one stream. The chairman said tha't since last meeiting the Commission had sat and a satisfactory settlement had been arrived at) in regard to the control of the stream. The vital length of the creek—the outlet from the Lakewas to be under the control of the Dnalinalge Board.. The Board was asking the Council's permission because the latter still controlled the rest of the creek. Cr. Broadbelt thought the findings of the Commission set up to enquire into the equity of the arrangement were very satisfactory, and they were now in a position that had been striven for over a period of many •years. The Council resolved to agree to the Hokio Drainage Board's request to he allowed to do the work, subject to the sanction of the Lake Domain Board.
TB WHA.NGA ROAD. The Superintendent of the Siteite Advances Office stated the Board had resolved to entertain the Council's application for a loan of £3OO, at 51 per cent,, clrrency of'36i years, for the purpose of fanning and metalling the Te Whanga Road., A motion is to be passed agreeing to the rate of interest. ' KARA ROAD' BRIDGE, Messrs J. Cameron and L J. Hennessey, of Shannon, reported that the bridge at the top end of the Kara Road'is unsafe for traffic as practically the whale of the decking is rotten. The writ ens requested the Council to repair the bridge as BOion as possible, and in the meantime they held the council responsible for any accidents to stock in crossing the bridge.—Referred to the Engineer and Cr. Barber who will take what action they think flit.
