WHEAT SUPPLIES.

SERIOUS SHORTAGE FEARJLD. BUT PRICE FIXED ON LOWER. LEVEL. Mr T. Bruce, of Pabnerston North, Dominion President of the. New. Zealand Poultrymen's Association, attended a conference of wheatgrqwers, ! representatives of the Government, i milters, merchants and poultrymen, Jat Ashnurton yesterday. ! The business of the conference was to consider ways and means of controlling- tiie wheat /supply for the ' coming season, it being estimated that, whereas some 8,000,000 bushels will be needed in Niw Zealand, the harvest in the 'Dominion this year will approximate only 3,000,000 bushels. Fear was expressed' by many users of j wheat that, unless ample supplies at 1 a reasonable price are assured, there i would be a. s.erioufs shortage in the country and a corresponding high J level of prices. It was resolved 'to ask the Government to take control of the I marketing of the 1925-26 crop at 6/5, 6/7, and 6/9 f.o.b, with appropriate increments from March 30. j This confirms 'the agreement reached in May. It was also -resolved that the Government be asked.to take control for not less tlian three years, the j price to. be fixed each yeai by the 'growers, millers and Government not !later than December 3. Regarding ' next season's crop, 1926-27, it w;as resolved that the price be 7/-, 7/2, and 7/4 f.0.b., with an increment of three ' farthings from May 31, fowl wheat to be sixpence less. A deputation was '' appointed to uieSt the Minister, j The price agreed on for this year's wheat w;iU, we are informed, enable , Levin -p-oultrymen to secure wheat I during the 1925-26 season at approxi- : mately 8s 3d to 8s 6d per bluishel. This | represents an appreciable difference to those directly interested in the 'poultry industry, and will have a \ stabilising effect icxn the whole poultry situation.
