VEN. BEDE'S CHRISTMAS FAIR.
The Christmas Pair organised by the Ladies'' Guild of Ven Bedee Church to raise blinds towards piping off the debt on Uhe Parish Hall took place in the , Druids' Hall on .Friday and Saturday. The organisers were unfortunate in that .the rough weather on Friday deterred many people front venHuring out, and as a result the attendance in the afternoon and evening of that day was small. Saturday afternoon itiliere was a fair attendance, wnile in *he evening the hiill was wellfUjled. Mr J. Linklater, M.P., >yas presemt on Friday, afternoon, and performed the opening ceremony, in the oqunse of which he said it gave him great pleasure to be present and he congratulated the ladies on their excellent arrangements. He pointed outr that this was his first appearance at a public function since the election and the first function he had attended -at Shannon, with the exception of the turning on of the power from Mangahao, and he thus toqk the opportunity, qf thanking his supportezs in Shannon who had helped to iplace (hi'iiii at the head of tlie poll for anqtner term.' He then declared the bazaar open. At the 'far end of the building, tastefully arranged and decorated stalls were erected, each being loaded: with .tempting rand useful articles, a. large, number having been the, result of the labours ojf the committee who have been working for weeks past in preparing articles lor the (bazaar. Near the ,door the shooting gallery, fat sheep pen, .and other competitions were' to be found, while! in the centre of the hall was a huge Christinas Tree stocked with siudithible toys, which, was the delight of the children. At night this Was (beautifully illuminated with coloured lights, and the decorations of silver and frost, made it most attractive.
During the two days the different 'stallholders, under the supervision of Rev, Mr Farnell, conduoted a number jof. competitions and all used their oest endeavours to rake in the shillings. Although the takings were noi 1 up to previous years, this is accounted lor toy the iboasterous. '"weather, thai prevailed on Friday, but nevertheless the committee should be well satisfled. Under such adverse, conditions, they did all possible to exceed last year's takings and they are to be complimented on sie effont they made and the harmonious mjanner in which they all worked together. On Saturday evening Sthe Maori String Band rendered several musical items which added .to the enjoy-' merit of the evening. THE STAKEHOLDERS.
