BANQUET FOR BURGLAR.
• A SOCIETY CRIMINAL.* ' WASHINGTON, Nov. 19.' Though this state of affairs is generally accepted with but question, much comment has .heen caused in Washington by the behaviour of one Off .the best-known society leaders. Mrs Scott Durand’s son Jack was recently . convicted and sentenced to three years on a charge of burglary. The trial caused a sensation, but the a'ctioii of his mother has proved even more astonishing. Mrs Durand is giving Jack a farewell banquet to-night, as he goes to prison to-morrow. Fifty guests-will be present.
