PROGRESS OF HORO'WII.ENUA SCHEME. Reporting to the 1-lo.rowhenua County Council on Saturday, Mr W. N. Anderson, County 'Engineer, said: The survey and levels of the LevinManukuu section of the Main Highway lias (been completed and the plans, etc., are nearing completion and will he forwarded to the Highways Board for.approval in about a week’s time. Good progress is being made with the earthwork, reconstruction of \vatertables, etc., on the petition (between Kuku and Manakau and a start will be made with the strengthening of (lie metal portion of the road at the beginning of next week. The Anderson crusher will be shifted to Waikawa within the next week" or ten days; 1200 cubic yards were put. out from this crusher during the period. , - In connection with the main crushing plant, I have to report that 1 have no further advice about this plant, but- expect it will arrive about the end of'this mouth. The Hecla chip crusher came to hand during the. perlocl and was thoroughly overhauled and is now in good order. Although this machine was damaged by salt water it was not affected in any way by the.fire. The screens, elevators and motors etc., have arrived arid , are ready for erection whenever the big arrives. ' * The Fordson tractor ‘has come to hand and the bitumen sprayer and boiler are expected in a few days. Another shipment of ’bitumen arrived during the period and has been distributed along the roads where it will be required.
