Mr H. Holland, Leader of the N.Z. Labour Party, is to address the electors at Levin on Thursday evening.
Mr .1. Linklater, the Reform candidate for the Manawatu seat, will address the electors at the .Maoriland Theatre on- Thursday evening next at 8 p.m.
Mr .Jas. Martin, of the Shannon Meat Go. staff, while cutting up meat on Thursday, received a nasty cut on the arm, necessitating a couple of stitches.

The official opening of the Tennis Club's season has been postponed until Wednesday, November 4th, owing to the courts, which have recently been top-dressed, not having properly set as a result of the wet weather. It is the committee’s intention to hold a dance in the Druids’ Hall on the night of the opening day.

Seifert, Ltd., with the idea "of eradicating the blackberry, but after a fair trial it was found they were doing no good and that they were becoming a nuisance, so it was decided tO' eradicate them and they have since been destroyed.
At Saturday’s meeting of the lloru wnenua County Council, Cr. Why to said a number of residents at Tokomaru, where the water hr summer was very scanty, wanted to put in a supply system uAtt would 'utilise the overflow from the artesian well belonging to the Education Board, it would supply 20 or 30 houses and the residents wanted to know how to go about it. The chairman said they could form a special rating area and petition the Council if -they got a majority ol the residents to sign it. Cr, Whyte that might he difficult as many of the 'Owners of small sections were absentees. The clerk said that they could, in that case, take a poll, which could be carried by three-fifths of those voting. Cr. Harkness said he did not think the Education Board would raise arty difficulty.
On Friday .evening the members of the Ladies’ Guild of Ven. Bede’s Church entertained the vestrymen of the church at a social, evening in the Parish Hall. Games and competitions were entered into- with great espirit by those present and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Opportunity was also taken by the members of the Ladies’ Guild'to make a presentation to their president, .Mrs E. Butt, whose birthday had fallen on that day. and Rev. Mr Farnell, on behalf of the ladies, in presenting her with a beautiful birthday cake and a. book of poems, spoke of the good service she had rendered as president of the Guild, wishing her many more years of good health and happiness. An excellent sit-down supper was provided and a. most pleasant evening was brought to a close with the “Sir Roger do Coverley” and “Auld Lang Syne.”

A Christchurch telegram to-day says ihat. in an attempt, to jump his horse ever n fence at Ohoka on Saturday, Frederick Gilmore, married, aged 29 'pars, fell off the horse, which rolled on top of him, inflicting severe iniuriee to- his head,- from which he died in the Christchurch hospital yesterday.
