j WERAROA WIN LICENSED VICTUj ALLERS' CUP. The final for the Licensed Victuallers' Cup was played at Otaki. on Saturday between Weraroa and Shan, -non. On the previous Saturday the two teams, despite a. stubborn contest lasting 2-i hours, played a draw. However, on this occasion Weraroa proved victors, 6—4, two unconverted tries to a potted goal. The game was a fine one and both sides handled the ball splendidly. Shannon, however, failed to make the same headway av Weraroa, their passing rushes, although crisp and clean, going across the held without ground being gained. On the other hand Weraroa headed for their opponents' goal line and made the most ot every/passing rush. The Weraroa boys were also smarter in following up, while Shannon, with the exception of a couple of players, lacked dash and often lost good opportunities. The kicking ami tackling of both sides were good while all,players took the bail nicely. Weraroa, after a hard struggle, made the first score, Gobo Broughton cross ing the line in good style. Phillips failed to convert. Play from this stage became very determined and Chapman, for Shannon, dropped a fine goal from the 25's, thus making the game 4—3 in their favour. Play beca uu#f aster and harder than before and dribbling rushes were prominent. The ball traversed the field in quick succession, but Bull, by a smart piece of play, dodged through his opponents and just fell over the line. Phillips failed to convert. Weraroa 6, Shannon 4. Shannon played splendidly for the remainder of the spell, and nearly crossed the line on several occasions. Play was of a hard nature, • and despite determined attempts to cjoss the line the score remained unaltered,. and thus Weraroa, amidst jubilation from their supporters, were declared victors. For Shannon Roach (half back) played a fine game, and initiated many passing rushes. Bull, R. Broughton, and Ryder were the pick of the winners, but got good support from the others. Mosfof the forwards, .both for Weraroa and Shannon, worked well. Mr Ned Bevan was referee.
