EXPORTS OF DAIRY PRODUCE
FROM ARGENTINE, LATVIA AND FINLAND. Although we hear it said repeatedly that the manufacture of dairy produce of our competitors is increasing rapidly, these statements are hardly born out by actual figures of production and export. As a matter of fact, “no countries are in a position to show anything like the progress made by New Zealand during the last few years. The following figures show that although an increase in exports from the above countries has taken place it is by no means as substantial as we were led to believe two or three years ago. Exports from Argentine July and August, 1922; Butter 1,350 tons. Cheese 1,400 tons. July and' August, 1923; Butter 1,989 tons. Cheese 915 tons. Casein 2,050 tons. July and August, 1924; Butter 1,545 tons. Cheese 208 tons. Casein 1,880 tons. ' July and August, 1925; Butter 1,814 tons. Cheese 34 tons. Casein 2,198 tons. Exports from Latvia. Butter. Total exports, 1922; 790 tons, 1923; 2,912 tons, 1924; 4,104 tons. During the later portion of 1924 practically the whole of the butter went to Germany. Exports from Finland, (for 5 months ending 31st March) Butter, 1913; 5,854 tons, 1924; 3,694 tons, 1925; 5,775 tons.
