ROCK CARVINGS OF KAINGAROA.

PRPBABLE WORK OF NGATI-HOTU REFUGEES. ( ROTORUA, Last Night. Yesterday Mr H. Hamilton, curator of the Dominion Museum returned from an examination of the roclt carvings of the Kaingaroa Plains. He states that the find is the most important discovery yet made. The carvings are of undoubted aboriginal origin. Their period is uncertain, but they are of considerable antiquity. The canoes are all depicted heading south and have a peculiar construction. Features of their adornment contain single and double spirals. Mr Hamilton states it is a great national monument.

Dr. Buck will make a further inspection on Thursday. Ethnological revelations are highly probable.
