MAORI BALL.
AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION".
Despite i.Jie boisterous weather on Friday evening there was a good at- ! tendance at the Maori Ball held in. the Druids' Hall, visitors being present from Palmerston, Levin, Foxton and Tokomaru, the function 'both socially and financially being a splendid success. The hall was artistically decorated for the occasion with cuain streamers of red and blue draped from the ceiling, while a huge bell of thin streamers hung in the centre of the hall. The electric light shades were similarly decorated. Around the walls was nicely arranged Nikau palms and over each doorway was a trellis of plaited greenery. Oh the back of the stage was a large Union .lack bearing the words "Te AVhaka te ra Te Ngare o Turongo," the name of the local tribes, while around was suitably arranged couches and easy '
chairs. The supper room was decorated with red and blue streamers..!he whole of the decorations combined with the beautiful and! many colourI ed frocks \vori) t by the ladies presentj ed a very gay appearance and those [who were responsible for the decoraitions are to be complimented. Messrs IT. Kohika and P. Herewiia were M'.'tG. ] and carried out their duties very efficiently. Larkin's full orchestra supplied the music and added.much to the enjoyment of the evening, extras being played by the Maori String Band. The supper arrangements, which were in charge of a ladies' committee, was quite a feature, there being" a plentiful supply of the most delicious dishes. At an interval Mr Moody thanked those who had made the gathering such a. success, especially those persons who had come a long distance and the ladies who had charge, of the supper arrangements. He stated that the Committee had generously agreed to allow the hall decorations to remain for the dance to be held bv the committee of the Plunket Society on October 13th. During ihe. evening k laret cup and soft drinks were dispensed from, a stall on the stage and were largely availed of. Dancing was carried on until about 3 a.m. The committee are to be complimented on the excellent arrangement and the manner in which the ball was conducted and it is gratifying that their efforts to make it a> success were rewarded as they had worked hard to attain that end.
