NEGLIGENT DRIVING.

MOTORIST FINED £5. At the Foxton S.M. Court on Friduy tlie police proceeded against a native woman, Morehu Raina Walker, of Ohau, for negligently driving a motor car in Johnston Street, Foxton. The case was adjourned from last Court day. Mr Bergin appeared for defendant, who pleaded guilty. Constable Owen, in ! outlining the case, stated that at about 6 o’clock on the evening of June 24th Mr W>oollerman, of Palmerston North, accompanied by another person, was proceeding along Purcel Street in a car in the direction of Foxton. When nearing the Johnston Street corner the occupants of the car noticed lights of an approaching car in the cutting and pulled over to tlieir correct side. A car driven by defendant, rounded the corner and struck Mr Woolerman’s .car hut did not stop until some distance down the road, fortunately neither occupant of the car was injured and Mr Woolerman started off to interview the driver of the other car but just as he got up to it it started off. He was able to secure the number however. Defendant stopped her car between. Foxton and Levin and obtained the assistance of a' lorry driver wlm drove her back to Foxton. Defendant said that she had received liquor in Foxton. Had care been exercised the accident could have been avoided, as the loft hand wheels of Mr Woolerman’s car were three feet off the metalled road, on the grass, which left defendant 18 feet of metal road. Mr Bergin said that defendant lmd been hurrying home on the night in question and the car had no brakes. The corner was a bad one.

Defendant was fined £5 with costs £5 13s and her driver’s license was suspended for three months.
