THIRTY-ONE POINTS IN SECOND HALF. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Wellington defeated Wairarapa by 2S to 12. In the first half, Wairarapa, assisted by a strong wind, ran up nine points to nil. Wellington made some desperate attempts to score, but the visitors’ defence was sound and their forwards played with considerable dash. F. Booth kicked a penalty goal and scored a try; C. Booth also scored. In the second spell, Wellington had the better of the play, Tilyard scored a beautiful try, which Malcolm converted. Malcolm kicked a goal from a free kick then Grenfell scored a try—Wellington 11, Wairarapa 9. Wairarapa showed a temporary improvement and held its own for some time . The standard of play was high but the visitors could not maintain the effort. Wellington then assumed the upper hand again. J. Shearer scored a pretty try. Malcolm missed the goal, but shortly after he potted a beautiful goal from forty yards out—23-9. A penalty came to Wairarapa after some strenuous play nd F. Booth landed a nice goal—23-12 Wellington continued the pressure. Tilyard, after pretty play, scored a nice try and Malcolm goaled, the final score being 2S-12.
