WOMANHOOD OF NEW ZEALAND. “It is the general opinion that the girls of to-day dress too expensively,” said Mr. F ,R. Cooke at a Conciliation Council meeting- at Christchurch, on Wednesday, when the clothing trade award was under dispute. . Ho contended that the present wage did not allow a girl to live and dress as she should. The union was asking for an increase of 3/6 a week. Mr. Cook© said that in trying to raise the wages, they were aiming at a higher standard of womanhood. In the interests of the Dominions, the conditions under which the future motherhood of New Zealand worked should be as high as possible.
