MATAKANA RADIATA, LTD.
AN UNIQUE AFFORESTATION SCHEME. What promises to be the first afforestation company in New Zealand is Matakana Radiata, Ltd., whose advertisement appears in this issue, in chatting with their representative Mr Stacey, who' is at present in Shannon on business, he. stated that he is prepared to substantiate any statement contained in the prospectus. The points that command attention are first of all the land has been bought (Land Transfer Title) and the trees have actually been planted. In addition to this the vendors guarantee to replace any tree that fails to strike lor a penod of three years free of charge. The land becomes the property of the shareholders and consequents the returns are perpetual at intervals of approximately 20 years. Each share ion the most conservative cstimai-e is expected to produce over £SOO on account Qf - the wonderful transport facilities. A sum of £4OOO is to be set aside for the purpose of paying for the services of a permanent supervisor after the first three years. The vendors also guarantee to supervise the plantation until the permanent supervisor takes over. All the planting has been carried out under the direct control of Mr Gordon Glen, who was for some years in the employ of the State Forest Service. This company has ideal transport facilities and can ship timber direct to any part of the world. Mr G. A. damnum, the well-known timber merchant of the Ohakune and Mamaku sawmills, has given an excellent report of the island and estimates that £200,01)0 will be saved in freight alone. He says; "My opinion of Matakana Island as an afforestation proposition is that in all probability it will be unequalled from any point of view examined from fire, rainfall, suitable land, climate, handling, haulage and milling. It has the .best conditions possible. It needs no boosting as it has sound actual facts in its favour." The board of directors are wellknown prominent business men in Auckland, of undoubted integrity. We urge our readers to carefully read the advertisement in this issue. It will assuredly pay them well. As an insurance for old age, or as an endowment for young people or children it stands aiome.
