j QUARTERLY MEETING. r The management committee of the Horowhenua Patriotic Society met on Wednesday afternoon. 'Present: Mr P. W. Goldsmith (president), Mrs T. F. Gibson, Messrs W. E. Kilsby, R. G. McLean, G. P. Catley, and C. S. Keedwell. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Whitehouse, the R.S.A. representative. An expression of sym-. pathy with Mr W. Murdoch, the Ma-j yor of Shannon, was passed, this member being ill at present and in the Palmerston North Hospital. The action of the executive, in granting £1 a week rent to a badly wounded soldier, was approved, the allowance to be paid until further notice.
Temporary loans, to* the extent of £3O, were made to men, it beingi also resolved to make a grant of 30s a week to the dependents of a solder in hospital. A sum .of £5 was granted to the dependents of a soldier, but an application for the payment iOf an Auckland man's funeral expenses was declined on the ground that his death had not been caused through any war disability. Upon production of the necessary security, a loan of £SO was approved. A large number of refunded instalments on loans were received during the quarter. The War Funds Council forwarded a report of their operations, a perusal of the report providing ample evidence of the activities of patriotic Accounts totalling £1 ss, were passed for payment.
