MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS

Those present at last night's meet ing of the local Horowhenua-Mana-watu Management Committee were. Messrs Rimmer (chairman), Sloan, Anderson, Frechtiing, Peters, McDonald, Wrigley, Rohertshaw, Hutchens, McMillan, Robinson, Austin, Hannan and Dalzell. Among the matters dealt with were the ioilowing;— Regarding the protest of the Moutoa Club, against the referee's decision in the Moutoa-Shannon match played at Shannon a fortnight ago, the referee (Mr A Georgej reported that first be-, fore the end of the first extra Vi minutes play upon there being no score at die end of the game proper), Moutoa appealed for a free kick for an infringement, but he made it a scrum in the middle of the •field. Mr Sloan, representative of the Referees' Association said the referee in question was absolutely wrong, in that he should have given a kick at half-way. Mr Austin thought that H the match were re-played (and he suggested it should) it should be splayed at Moutoa. Mr Robertshaw was in accord with the first half of the previous speaker's suggestion, bin was strongly against a .re-play taking place ait Moutoa. He could not see why Shannon should be penalised through a referee's wrong decision. In rebuttal of what Mr Robertshaw •had stated in regard to the place of re-play, Mr Austin said'that Moutoa was appealing on the grounds ol having to travel twice to the same place, as when'they proceeded to Shannon on the first occasion they had to ferry across the flooded Mana watu and suffered a certain amount of hardship in so doing. The secretarv (Mr Carmichael) said he did not think.the game should be played away from Shannon, as the match would be really a re-play of the original fixture and he agreed with Mr Robertshaw that the Shan nori Club should not suffer through a technical error of the referee. Mr Anderson said. the Moutoa players were also penalised if they had to go back and play the match at Shan non. Mr." Robinson concurred. A very animated discussion then ensured' between members as to the claims of both clubs until a definite motion was moved and .seconded by Messrs Austin and Robinson, respectively that the Moutoa-Shannon game'be re-played, th« ultimately be ing carried. , . ~ Mr Austin then asked for definite voting as to whether or not the replay should be drawn for or, alternatively plaved at Shannon. The ensuing vote resulted in a draw, the chairman giving his casting vote in favour of Shannon. Owing to the omission of the date in a list of fixtures, the Miranui-Toko-maru match was not played, but on the motion of- Mr Dalzell it was decided that the match will be played at Miranui on 'Saturday next.
