Correspondence was received as follows: —
Tiie Hawkes Bay Union regretted that they wore unable to fulfil their engagement tor the match against a team from Horowlienua, scheduled lor September 16th. This had been brought about through September Litli oeing the date on which New South Wales, play New Zealand at Auckland, which is the date when Hawkes Bay are due to play Wellington, thereby compelling the Hawses Bay Union to seek another date for the* Wellington match, which interei'ered with tire previously arranged tour. Mr Austin suggested the 9th September might be reserved for a match with Hawkes Bay, hut on Mr Wrigiey’s motion it was resolved that the secretary be empowered to write that Union, protesting against the postponement and asking for another date. Failing a satisfactory reply, the matter should be taken up with the New Zealand Rugby Union. In seconding the motion, Mr Robinson remarked that the people throughout the Horowlienua Union had been looking forward, for some time, to iliis particular match, and the postponement would be a pretty severe knock to the Union. Mr Wrigley said it would he the biggest gate Horowlienua has seen. The Committee decided that neither Junior nor Senior games will be (played on Saturday next, owing to ,tlie rep. game in Palmerston. The Management Committee of the Amalgamated Unions are meeting on Saturday, August 22nd, at 7.30 p.m. in Palmerston North.
The .secretary of the combined union advised that the Manawatu-Horo-wlienua Junior match will be played
as a curtain-raiser to the New South Wales match at Palmerston North on Saturday next at 1 p.m. , The team, as given below, will be managed by Mr F. Robinson, the team to be in readiness at the showgrounds by 12.45 p.m.;—R. Ryder (W.), Northey (Foxton), ■ Hewetson (Tokom-aru), Nees. (Hui Mai), T. Parata (Paraparaumu), K. Herini (Foxton), W. Parata (Paraparaumu), Pini (Miranui), Shaw (Foxton), Scholes (Moutoa), Pine (Awahou), Gray (Shannon), Robinson (Foxton), John (Otaki), Morgan (Paraparaumu). Emergencies: Backs, W. Ryder (Weraroa), J. Huff (Foxton); forwards, B. Cole (.Weraroa), Simpson (Tokomaru). The Moutoa Club protested against the referee’s decision in the MoutoaSliannon match on Saturday. At the call of time both teams had equal scores, and it was decided to play twelve minute spells until one side or the other scored. At the termination of the first spell time was called, and at the time Moutoa were attacking osn Shannon’s twenty-five. An infringement .occurred and a scrum was ordered. The referee, however, ignored the protest of the Moutoa captain and ordered the teams to change over. At that time, when the game was in progress, the Moutoa team had only twenty-five yards in which to score. In the subsequent change-over, the Shannon team scored, and were awarded the game. Under those circumstances the Moutoa team considered they had been placed at an unfair disadvantage. In support of the protest, Mr Austin considered the match should be
replayed at Moutoa. The team had ferried across the flooded river so that the match might be played, and in fairness to them, the match should be played as suggested. Mr Dalzell moved and ,Mr Hannan seconded thai the match be re-played and the choice of ground be drawn for, but the motion was waived in favour of an amendment moved by Mr Procter that the protest be held oyer, pending receipt of a report from the referee, fill the next committee meeting.
