About 96 years ago, George Wilson, a prisoner under sentence of death in the United States, was granted a pardon by the President. He refused to accept the pardon, and the question was raised as to whether it was a pardon if he did not accept it. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court gave the decision, that, “a, pardon is a paper, the value of which depends upon its acceptance by the person implicated.’ Wilson refused forgiveness and he was hanged.
