SHANNON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The monthly meeting of the executive .of the Chamber of Commerce was held in the Council Chambers last evening:—Present: Messrs R. E. Tippler (president), J. Murray, T. C. Thwaites, J. Curran and T. King. CORRESPONDENCE.
From, Minister of Railways- with reference to Chamber’s representations regarding the lighting of Shannon Station, stating that- the installation of electric light m the railway station and five departmental cottages at Shannon is included in the Department’s electric lighting programme fo.r the current financial year and the work will be put in hand as soon as circumstances permit.—Received. From- Oitaki Chamber of Commerce conveying their hearty thanks and appreciation to the Chamber for the manner in which they lent valued influence in endeavouring to keep die Otaki Hospital open. The Chamber received a copy of the telegram received iby the Borough Council from the Railway Department re putting back the arrival Of Field’s train at Shannon which stated that a. resolution to this effect had been passed at the animal meeting of the Shannon Chamber.—lt was resolved that the Department be written to pointing out that they must be under a misapprehension as no suck resolution had been passed by the Chamber to have the present time table altered, also that the Chamber consider that the present time-table meets the requirements of the citizens of Shannon and district. GENERAL.
The President reported that no reply had been, received from the Post-master-General to the Chamber’s request re the mail'from south beingsorted at Shannon on arrival ql' the evening' train. —It was resolved that the Postmaster-General be written to asking for a reply to the letter. On Mr Thwaites’ motion it was decided that the Railway Department be -again written tp asking that tlie Ned Plymouth express-stop at Shannon when going north. j It was resolved that it be left to the President to call a meeting of those interested in the formation of a branch of the Plunket Society in Shannon. It was pointed out that the Plunket nurse was visiting Shannon each week and an effort must be made to form a committee to provide ways and means for carrying 1 on the work. On the motion of Mr King, seconded by Mr Murray, it was resolved that the Railway Department be -written to urging a dry dock he erected at the local railway yards, also that, a few seats be placed on the railway platform fpr the benefit of the travelling public; who complain bitterly at. the present time of ‘the lack of seating accommodation.
