SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly! meeting of the School Committee was. held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chairman), Blra.un, Burns, Brown, 'Blackwood, Watkins (secretary), and the headmaster (Mr White). CORRESPONDENCE,
From Wellington Education Board re grama.pbcuiQS for School, stating that" the Board is in sympathy with the Committee's resolution to support Dominion-made machines and has submitted to the Education Department a copy of the committee's protest.
Re building shelter sheds at Kara and Kingston roads, the secretary of the Board wrote stating the Board's allowance does not provide for shelter sheds away from the schools and asked if arrangements could be made as elsewhere, for parents to provide the .shelter necessary.—lt was decided to recommend that the parents do the work. The secretary of the Board wrote slating that Ihe Board had authoris-" ed Ihe Architect to provide an incinerator and it will be constructed when arrangements can be made.—'lt was decided to write pointing out that there was no means of disposing of rubbish and asking that the work be done at once.
From the Borough Coiuucil, stating that the matter of improving the approach to the school had been referred to the Roads Committee.
Replying to the Committee re electric light and water heater for the school, the Secretary of the Education Board stated Unit the Board will be prepared to find one-third of the cost of installation if the committee undertakes all maintenance and rental costs of light and heat. The letter also asked how the Committee proposed to finance.—The Board to be informed that it was proposed to payout of contributions. Advice was received from the secretary of the Board that £32 8s 5d had been placed to the credit of the Committee's account, being their allowance lor the current quarter. A letter was received from the Board relative to the renovations to be made to the school residence, stating that the residence will be quite a satisfactory dwelling. The secretary of the Board wrote stating lhat the Committee's application for a subsidy of £34 7s 6d has been provisionally approved of and that payment will be made by the Education Department on receipt of the Committee's certificate. GENERAL.
It was decided to urge the Education Department to have the School connected up with the Borough water supply immediately.
Messrs Brown and Burns were appointed a visiting committee lor Uie ensuing month. The headmaster reported that arrangements were well in hand for celebrating Arbor Day a.t the sdhool on Wednesday next. It was reported by the chairman that. Mr T. C. Thwaites had very kindly donated to the School a first aid chart, y Mr Thwaites was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his donation.
