A TRAMWAY "GENIUS."

INTRICATE PROBLEM SOLVED. Mark Twain told a story of a prisoner who languished in,prison for a lifetime, and then, suddenly, a great idea struck him. He opened the door of his cell and walked out. An act of reason almost as remarkable was observed by 2000 angry passengers on the Eastern Suburbs line in Sydney recently. A tram stuck up about 300 yards from a depot, and all the King's motormen and all the King's conductors couldn't get that car to move again. There were long discussions among tramway officials, and many a bronzed face paled at the terrible situation. For a quarter of an hour the trams piled up behind .the helpless hulk. Then came the great idea. If one coupled the next tram to the brokendown car and pusjied it for 3015 yards to the depot, the line would be cleared for traffic. It has not yet been ascertained, says a Sydney paper, whether the manager will give a reward to the genius who thought out such an intricate problem, or sack all the others who failed.
