COUNTY COUNCIL’S SUBSIDY. A letter was received at Saturday’s meeting of the Horowlienua County Council, from the secretary of the Levin W.E.A. (Mr W. G. Bishop) applying for the usual donation to the funds of the Association. A grant of £lO was made, the chairman stating in moving the resolution that he thought a report should be submitted to the Council as to the number of people attending the courses. Whilst recognising the value of the course, the Council should be sure that there were a sufficient number taking it to justify the Council’s contribution. Cr. Harkness stated that the lectures were of a very high standard. At the same time the classes were not as well attended as might be. He thought that there should be at least 100 people there every evening. At the same time the attendance was better this year than previously, and the work being done well justified the assistance of the Council,.
