The fortnightly euchre and dance will be held in the Parish Hall this evening.
Mr Thomas, our local stationmaster, who has been on his annual leave, resumed duty yesterday morning.
It is hoped that every member of the Choral Society will be present at the next practice when the soloists will be present to take their different parts.
At the Police Court on Saturday morning, before Messrs Gunning and Spencer, J.'sP., a man named John Wilton, from Mangahao, was charged with drunkenness and using obscene language. On the first charge he was fined £1 and on the latter he was fined £3, in default one month's imprisonment.
After being in operation for. a few days the punt at tha Manawatu river was again thrown out of action on Saturday evening owing to a fresh in the river, thus .causing a great deal of inconvenience to those who find it necessary to use it. Unfortunately, each fresh silts, up the approaches and after the river goes down it takes a day or two to remove the silt.
A final given that the Methodist Sunday School anniversary and prize-giving takes place in ■the Parish Hall to-morrow evening. The annual tea' will take place at 6 p.m. and this will be followed by the prizegiving and concert at. 7.30 p.m., to which parents and others are cordially invited. Mesdames Carter and Aldersey, who have-been hard workers in connection with the church, and who are leaving Shannon, will be tendered a farewell the same evening.
At the Shannon stock sale held of sheep, but only a small yarding of shep, but only a smalle yarding of cattle came to hand. The prices realised compared . favourably with ruling rates and several pens changed hands. Following are the prices obtained:—Sheep: Hoggets £1 to 21s, cull lambs 12s 6d, empty ewes 245, springing cows £4 to £4 ss, heifers in milk £7, fat heifers £5 16s, light forward cows £3 16s, forward cows £3 12s 6d to £2 15s, weaner heifers 11a to 21s.
About seven o'clock on Saturday evening a collision occurred near the first bridge on the road to, Miranui, between a motor car driven by Mr W. Gardner and a horse and trap in charge of a lad named John Crenfelt, who is in the employ of Mr F. Webb, of Kara road. The car, which was coining- towards Shannon, struck the cart, throwing it on its side, the boy falling between the struggling horse and the trap. Luckily he escaped with only a few bruises, but the vehicles were badly damaged. ,So great was' the impact of the collision that it was heard by residents a quarter oi a,mile away.
The wedding took place on Thursday last at the residence oi her aunt, Mrs F. S. Stillman, 36, Konini load, Haitaitai, of Miss Molly Upton, well-known in Wellington and Palmcrston in ihe musical circles and the daughter of Mr and Mrs 0. Upton,- of i.ongburn, and late of Shannon, to Mr .Stanley Barber, of Moutoa, Foxion, and second son of Mr ami Mrs Walter Barber, of Motuiti. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. 'Father" Qoinneliy and was attended by a number oi friends of the bride.' The bride was given away by her father and the best man was Mr 1). Gilbert, of Moutoa. Miss Joyce Stilluiiin acted as bridesmaid. The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of numerous presents including a presentation from the residents of Moutoa and Foxton.

A very enjoyable "kitchen. evening" was given recently by Mrs Allan Burling in the Parish Hall in honour of Miss Myrtle Easton, whose marriage is to take place shortly to Mr P. Bang. Tlie evening was spent in dancing, competitions and musical items. Miss Easton was the recipient of a number of useful and ikmdsome presents.
In connection with the street stall for school funds on Saturday, there is to be a children's skipping competition. Children are*to bring.their own ropes and there will be prizes for the best solo skipper, that is the one who readies the hightest total, and for the best ipair (two skipping in one rope). The competition will be divided into two classes, children up to 10 years, 2d entry, and from 11 to 14 6d eritrv. Substantial cash prizes are offered and there should be some interesting displays of this very fine exercise in front of the Council Chambers all day on Saturday next.
