“FAMOUS FIVE” FODDERS OF FINANCIAL FEEDING.
Permanent pasture, maize, lucerne, clover hay. and ensilage are the.“famous five’* fodders that represent financial success to the farmer in feeding dairy cows. These feeds may all be grown and conserved on the farm. Dairy farmers who make provision for these fodders provide suitable “balancing” feeds, for all periods of the year, and are insured against fires, floods, and droughts. As the "ace,” “king,” “queen,” “jack,” and “joker” are the leading cards in the playing pack, so permanent pasture (the ace), maize (the king), lucerne (the queen), clover hay (the jack), and ensilage (the joker) are the top cards in the serious matter of economical feeding of dairy cows.
