TOKOMARU NOTES.
(From Ouir Own Correspondent.) On Friday last the local Football Club held their annual hall, and in spite of the boisterous weather there was a very large attendance. The hall was very nicely decorated with tree ' ferns adorned with chrysanthemums, toi toi, and festoons -of lycopodium, through which coloured electric lights were set up three feet apart. Streamers of red and black paper hung from the centre of the hall to the walls, representing the club colours. Messrs Perry, Osman, and Reid acted in the capacity of M.’sC., and much of the success ,of the evening was due to their untiring efforts. Several twilight dances were put on during the evening, the coloured lights being used for the purpose, and giving a very beautiful effect: The supper room was also nicely decorated and about one hundred couples sat down to a most enjoyable feast. Music for the evening was supplied by Larkins’ Orchestra, and went a long way towards the success of dJhie function. Extras were played by Mrs Monrad, Miss Sniurthwaite, Miss Gruickshank, and Mr H. Parr.
The takings at the door amounted to £3l 14s and out of this amount, the Club will show, a profit of about. £6. As usually is the case in Toko-in-aru the footballers bad to fall back on the ladies, to prepare the supper, and much credit is due to them lor the maimer in which they stepped forward and made the fruit salads, trifles, etc. The footballers are to be congratulated on the splendid success .of the Ball. On Friday next a concert will be held for the purpose of raising funds lor the local Hall.
