ELECTRIC LIGHTS IN DOMAIN.

A deputation consisting of Messrs Blackwood, J. Miurray, \V. Moyniiian 1 and H. Hardie waited on the Borougli I Council on Tuesday evening with a 1 view to obtaining a subsidy from the' Council lor the purpose oi installing' electric lights in the Recreation' Grounds. I Mr Murray said the proposal had! emanated from'the Shannon Football 1 Club. The idea was to make sport 1 attractive :in the town and enable; training operations to be carried out at night. If it could be had at, a nominal cost it would be an acquisition to the Borough. The estimated cost of the installation of the plant was £42, which would provide *>r six lights. The lighting would he sell; supporting. The idea was that the Borough CiOluncil and Lkmiain Exe-1 outive each pay half the cost of the material and the football club would provide the labour. He pointed out that it would not be a burden on the Council and that the installation would be vested in them. It would not, be there for any particu- J lar body and in the summer months] would prove a big acquisition and [ go a long way towards promoting 1 sport in the town. I Mr W. Moyniiian said there were; sixty players in the football club and they had nq gymnasium for train-! ing. The Club had gone fully into the scheme and considered the cost, 1 should be subsidised by the Domain * Executive and Borough Council. It would be self supporting by the Borough making a charge for the use of: the lights. The area, under the proposal, to be lighted, would be 100 square yards. The grounds would then be ideal for holding carnivals at night, and as a training ground. The Club (undertook to find the labour subject to the approval of the Power Board. Mr Blackwood gave details of the cost of the installation, stating that he was of opinion that the job could be done for less than the estimate and that it would be an acquisition to the town. . . . At the conclusion the Mayor said the request would be given every consideration and the matter was later retferred to tire Reserves Committee to deal with.
