, FORTNIGHTLY meeting. The for’migihtly meeting ol tbe Hyrowhenua Rugby Union was held on Tuesday, Mr J. \V\ Rimnier presiding. Also present; Messrs Dal/ell, Robertshaw, Robinson, Anderson, Procter, Hutchings, Austin, Wrigley, and the secretary (Mr >L. Carmichael). Mr R. Sloan, representing the Referees’ Association, was also present. corespondence. It was decided, that the gatekeeper at Otaki be paid 7/6 per match, mem* . bers expressing appreciation of the { excellent work for the Union being done by Mr Norgrove. I Gatekeepers’ reports and gatemoney for Saturday’s matches were j received. The Hui Mai Club reported toe m- ! jury of a player who had to receive medical attention. ! referees must be supported. ! The referee of the Hui Mai-Parapa-raurnu.Junior match on .Saturday last wrote protesting against the conduct of the captain of toe Hud Mai team who had given considerable trouble during, the game. A letter was also received from toe secretary of the Hut Mai Club on the same subject.
Mr 'Sloan stated that Mr Karauti ; had been appointed to control the game, but had not turned up. The man who had taken the game was not a referee and when Mr Lynch came on to toe field he had asked him to take over, which he eventually did. A player named A. Be van, of the Hui Mai Club, had been, ordered off the field, but had refused to go and had afterwards ridiculed every decision of the referee. Bevan was a very unsatisfactory man and he asked that he be seriously dealt with. Mr Wrigley said that the referees must be protected. He would suggest that this player be stood down for the remainder of the season, The secretary stated that Bevaii had been ordered off, but had, on tr.o application of the opposing captain been allowed to contimue. He had therefore not been actually ordered off. Further if was necessary that a man should be given .a chance of defending himseli before any action could be taken. On the motion of Mr. Austin it was decided that the referee in question and Bevan appear before the Union, Bevan to be suspended until he appears. REINSTATEMENTS REFUSED.
The Otaki Club asked lor the re-m----statenienf qf a senior player to junior rank. A similar application was received from tlu‘ Foxton Club. After consider able discussion it was decided that the re-tostatements could not be considered. DONATION'S FROM SCHOOL FUND. Letters of thanks were received from the Convent School Foxton, Reikiorangi, Waikanae, Tokomaru, Manakau, and Boys’ Training Farm, for the donation of footballs by the Union.—'Received. QUESTION OF junior STATUS. The Foxton I- ooithall Club protested against toe inclusion of a senior player, late Of the Bosh Union, in the junior match—t Imnnon v. Foxton. Mr Hutchings supported the letter.
On the motion of Mr Austin it was decided tQ write to the Bush Union for information on this point. MATCH AGAINST HAWKES BAY. The Hawkes Huy Union wrote confirming the arrangements made tor a rep. match, at Levin, viz., September 16 - , , . Received, it being pointed out bj. the secretary, tiiat toe Union had had an assurance from Hawkes Bay, that Nepia, Irv i ne, and the two , Brownlies would be members of tl-isl team. i EASTON PARK. The Foxton Borough Council wrote agreeing to reduce the flat rate loi the use of Easton Park from 30s to £1 per game played. Mr Austin moved and Mr Hutoiiings seconded that in the event of toe Park being required, the rate of £1 be agreed to. , FOURTH GRADE AGE LIMII. The secretary reported that the Levin D.H.S. l -layer, Ryder, against whom the Fonloii Club protested ou the score of age, was over 16 and had been debarred from further play. Further, the Headmaster had agreed to go very closely into the question of the ages of team, so that no further trouble should occur. _ It was decided that in the event of this game affecting toe championsiup it be replayed ait Foxton. GENERAL. Mr Robertshaw asked that the junior selector visit the Shannon and Tokomaru games for toe purpose of watching play in. connection with selection. . Permission was granted to tne Shannon Seniors to play Feildmg on Saturday next. The secretary was instructed to notify the Otaki Club tbat members must play in Club colours. amalgamation. It was decided that each member of toe Union be supplied with a copy of the Manawatu Union’s amalgamation proposals for consideration, the matter tq be fully considered at next week’s meeting.
