CHAPPED TEATS.
This condition would be far less common and troublesome were it made the invariable practice to thoroughly cleanse the udder and teats each time before starting to milk. Cleanliness of the hands, keping the finger nails well trimmed, and dry milking tend to prevent sore teats. It is likewise necessary, so far as possible, to keep the stall floor clean, and to keep cows out of filth, mud and stagnant Avater. Look out for the loose lower wires on fences and stray strands of barb wire left lying about. When sores start, immerse the * teats for ten minutes or. more night and morning in hot water containing all the boric acid it will dissolve; then dry gently and apply carbolized vaseline. In obstinate cases apply strong- iodine ointment once or twice daily.
