THE WOOL COMMITTEE.

, An Order-in-Council issued makes • important changes in the constitution of the Central Wool Committee. It rescinds ! that portion of 'the constitution relating to the minimum selling price, which' was found necessary in order, to regulate markets during the existence of the B.A.W.R.A. The power to allocate the quantities wool to be offered at auction sales in New Zealand remains unaltered, -but the Government through : the Minister and its appointee oti the committee, no longer shares in the control.. As .'the" result of this change, the committee

which has hitherto been acting has gone out of office,, and has been replaced <by a lew, committee, solely representative of the producers and woolbrokers. The new committee has been appointed by-the- Minister of Agriculture, after consultation with 'the New Zealand- Shipowners' Federation, Farmers' Union, and Woolbrokers' Association. It will consist of the following: Producers' Representatives: Messns W. Perry (Masterton), (chairman), Bernard Tripp (Timaru), and Robert 1/ilburn (Hirnterville). Woolbrokers* Representatives: Messrs. W. S. Bennett (Dalgety and Co.) and; A. E. Mabin (Levin and Co.). At a meeting of the committee the Minister expressed warm appreciation of the good work done by the committee which has gone out of office; and conveyed a hearty welcome to the new committee. The.personnel of the retiring committee was Messrs. C.' J. Reakes,. Director-General of Agriculture (chairman and- Government representative); O. J. Hawken, MiP., Taranaki/ and-L. A.-Rutherford (producers' "' representatives) r and A. \E. Mabin 'and-W.'-S. Bennett (Woolbrdkers' representatives).
