WOMAN'S VIVID GREEN FROCK.
A STUNNED HOUSE. LONDON, February 11. When the dignified British Parliament opened, Miss Evelyn Wilkinson, Labour member for Middlesborough, caused something of a sensation by appearing iii a costume which was described by one paper as "a flowing gown of green taffeta, a shade lighter than the vivid sea-green carpet, which decorates the floor of the Chamber. It was by a long way the most startling 1 frock ever worn by a woman in the Mother of Parliaments." It is added that the members gave a low murmur of admiration, and it was some time before they could settle down to business. It had a further merit of affording a vivid contrast to Miss Wilkinson's mass of red hair, which it was noticed the owner had shingled during the Parliamentary vacation. Miss Wilkinson seems fond of striking contrasts. Her height is just 4ft. llin., so she has engaged a secretary nearly six feet tall. . , The other women members of the House, Lady Astor and Mrs Phillipson, adhered to their previous custom of wearing black, relieved by touches of white. LONDON, February 2.
The myrtle green dress with which Evelyn Wilkinson, Labour's only woman member of Parliament, made history in the House of Commons, cost twelve shillings and sixpence, and she made it herself" Far from being satin or- other silk, as rapturously described, it was only wool stockinette, and already had seen service in the electoral campaign.
